Rooted in a compassionate faith.

What an incredible place we call home! First Presbyterian Church is a monument to our faith in a God whose love and mercy are little short of breathtaking.

In the Old Testament, it was common practice, when one encountered God, to build a monument to stand as a witness to God's presence in that place. In 1 Samuel 7, we read the story of a time when the Israelites were threatened by the Philistines, their enemy. The prophet Samuel responded to their cry by making a sacrifice for them. While he was preparing the sacrifice, the Philistines came near to attack, but God thundered with such a loud voice that the Philistines turned and fled.

Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Jeshanah, and named it Ebenezer; for he said, Thus far the Lord has helped us. (1 Samuel 7:12)

First Presbyterian Church is our Ebenezer to what God has done for us. For people throughout Tyler, our building is a sign of God's abiding presence in the heart of the city, a quiet reminder that God is with us always. This church is our special heritage to care for, not just for ourselves, our children, and for generations yet to be born; it is ours to care for so that people throughout Tyler may have hope.
