This year marks the eleventh anniversary of the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols at First Presbyterian Church by the Tyler Civic Chorale. This celebration is an East Texas re-creation of a perennial favorite at King’s College, Cambridge, England, with roots that can be traced back to the Archbishop of Canterbury in 1880.
The Chorale, under the direction of Interim Director of Music Lee Kohlenberg, sings music by Vaughan Williams, Manz, Joubert, Rachmaninoff, Lauridsen, Mathias, Hassler, Callahan, with congregational carol arrangements by David Willcocks. The 40-voice choir will be directed by Lee Kohlenberg, interim director of music at FPC, and accompanied by Jeffrey Ford.
The ecumenical service has become a beloved tradition in the Tyler community, drawing a crowd from across the region to celebrate the Christmas season with a solemn, candlelit festival.
