Session and Diaconate

guidance and care of God's people

The Nominating Committee of First Presbyterian Church calls new church officers. This is a tremendously important task to find members willing and able to serve as Elders, Deacons and Trustees. The Book of Order clearly states what is expected of these individuals.

The Office of Elder

Elders share in the governing and ministry of the church of Jesus Christ. Elders should be persons of faith, dedication and good judgments. Individually and jointly, elders strengthen and nurture the faith and life of the congregation. Together with the ministers, they should encourage the people in worship and the service of God; equip and renew them for their tasks within the church and for their mission in the world.

The Office of Deacon

The office as set forth in scripture is one of sympathy, witness and service after the example of Jesus Christ.  Persons of spiritual character, honest repute, exemplary lives, warm sympathies, and sound judgment should be chosen for this office. Deacons minister to those who are in need, to the sick and elderly, to the friendless, and any who may be in distress, as their ministry is one of compassion.
